Buhari’s Result, Cambridge can't authenticate it.

Cambridge: Why We Can’t Authenticate Buhari’s Result. BY NEWS TELEGRAPH. NOV 06, 2018

The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), now known as Cambridge Assessment, has declined to authenticate the West African School Certificate (WASC) result recently issued to President Muhammadu Buhari by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in Nigeria. he attestation of result, which was delivered to Buhari last Friday sparked a fresh controversy with some Nigerians alleging fraud and demanding further proof from Cambridge Assessment, the original body that was in charge of conducting school certificate examinations across West Africa in the 1960s. In a response to one of the requests to authenticate the controversial certificate yesterday, Cambridge said on its website: “We can only confirm or verify results at the direct request of or with the permission of a candidate.

“This is in accordance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulations, Data Protection Act 2018 and section 40 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.”

However, the organization confirmed that according to the Regulations for 1961, African Language papers, including those for Hausa were set for the West African School Certificate while examination results were classed in grades by 1 to 9. “1,2,3,4,5 & 6 indicate a Pass with Credit; 7 & 8 indicate a Pass; 9 indicates a Failure. To pass the School Certificate, candidates had to pass examinations in a variety of groups.

It was compulsory to pass English Language, but not Maths, in order to gain the Certificate,,” the examination body said. Cambridge disclosed that a total of 152 candidates sat for the WASC Hausa examination in 1961 and that Hausa language was one of the subjects set in the Northern Region that year. It however failed to confirm if there was any Muhammadu Buhari among the candidates.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari’s Secondary School Certificate has been a subject of controversy since 2015 when it was found missing in the forms he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the purpose of the presidential election. At that time, Buhari had through a sworn affidavit claimed that all his credentials were with the Secretary of the Military Board. Several lawyers filed suits in different courts challenging his claims and seeking his disqualification.

Many of these cases were stalled following several long adjournments where other plaintiffs were forced to withdraw their suits due to intense pressure from forces sympathetic to Buhari.

Why Jonathan's govt didn’t save despite oil boom - Okonjo-Iweala.

Author: Wale Akinola

-Former finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has revealed why Jonathan's government failed to save despite oil boom
- President Muhammadu Buhari had repeatedly blamed his inability to deliver on his critical campaign promises on the shortage of funds
- Okonjo-Iweala noted that the then state governors insisted that funds in the Excess Crude Account (ECA) must be shared

A former minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has linked the failure of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to save for the rainy day, despite oil boom, to the insistence of state governors that funds in the Excess Crude Account (ECA) must be shared. The Punch reports that Okonjo-Iweala, said as finance minister, with the backing of Jonathan and ex-vice-president Namadi Sambo, she had a running battle with state governors, who insisted that there was no need to save despite that crude oil was selling at $86 per barrel.

NAIJ.com gathered that the former minister said this in her book, “Fighting Corruption Is Dangerous: The Story Behind the Headlines,” published recently. President Muhammadu Buhari who succeeded Jonathan has been blaming his inability to deliver on his critical campaign promises on the shortage of funds.

Buhari had lamented that the government was broke due to the failure of the previous administration to save when oil price was high. The country went into an economic recession in 2016. But Okonjo-Iweala, who doubled as coordinating minister for the economy under Jonathan, identified the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who was then Rivers state governor and chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF); the national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, then Edo state governor; and Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state, as the most strident voices against the proposition to retain funds in the ECA for the rainy day.

According to Okonjo-Iweala, the National Economic Council (NEC) meetings used to turn stormy whenever the debate about sharing what was in the ECA came up, noting that only a few governors, such as then governor Peter Obi of Anambra state, supported the argument for saving but their voices were drowned by the majority who insisted that the country was already experiencing the rainy day and the money should be shared.

Okonjo-Iweala, who had her first stint as finance minister between 2003 and 2006 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, noted that Obasanjo’s administration created the ECA to solve the problem of Nigeria’s volatile revenue.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had previously reported that the former minister of finance under the Goodluck Jonathan's administration, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala revealed the reason she didn't throw in the towel and resign despite all adversities during her two terms as minister.

Dino Melaye's Emotional Speech

'We Know Our Friends In Times Of Adversity', Melaye Says In Long, Emotional Note

BY SAHARA REPORTERSMAY 22, 2018

THE FULL NOTE
Someone once said that rock bottom is good solid ground and a dead-end street is just a place to turn around. In the last few weeks, I have been taken to the good solid ground at the rock bottom and they couldn’t go further. I have been brought to the dead-end street, but with you standing by my side, I have turned around and bounced back to the chagrin of those who sought to seal my lips from speaking out against tyranny, politics of oppression and blackmail.
They unleashed an endless barrage of physical, psychological, metaphysical and emotional torture and assault on me, but through the power of the Most High and you, the good people of Nigeria, we have once again seen the triumph of truth over lies and good over evil.
It was Edmund Burke who was quoted as saying that when bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one … in a contemptible struggle. ‘I am, of all men, a blessed man, to have courageous and dependable people like you as my fellow soldiers in the struggle to free us from the shackles of political strongholds and tyranny.’
The state unleashed its raw power on me and released a 200-man-strong fully-armed policemen on a man without a knife or a bullet. It did this because I called injustice by its name and called for accountability. For this, they sought to break my spirit and destroy me permanently.
In their moment of reign, I was fully shackled. With my hands tied to my back and hurled into a dark solitary confinement waiting for the butchers knife, you, my people, stood by me. You came against a raging fire and stood up against tyranny, lies, filthy lucre, injustice, persecution and greed.
While in the dark and unable to fight for myself, they sought to take my mandate, which you had freely given to me, but you answered back and quenched deceit in its wake. You stood resolute and unflinching and defended your mandate to me.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart. In their attempt to break me, they have made me stronger.
You have strengthened my resolve and hardened my flesh against those who seek to devour and make meat of me. You have once again proved to me the axiom in the saying that ‘in prosperity, our friends know us; in adversity, we know our friends.’ I am very grateful. For your sake, I remain unbowed.
I know many of you worry about my safety and life in this new dispensation where life is no longer sacred in Nigeria, but do not be troubled. My bond of love for you, my good people, makes it impossible for me to consider my self-risk, safety, comfort or opportunity in my unflinching commitment to stand up for you, to stand up for truth and if necessary, die for the truth and the emancipation of our people from the chains of poverty and oppression.
Though they raise spurious allegations against me, bear false witness against me, though they seek to frighten me and lure me into their bounty of evil, I will fear no foe. Yes, my traducers and torturers wish that I keep quiet; though they seek to seal my lips, to silence my voice forever, I remain ever more resolute and committed. I am committed to this cause for which I am a politician; the cause of the downtrodden, to speak truth to power and stand against oppression and injustice. On these issues, there will be no compromise. I owe no apologies and I tender none.
Like I have always said, ‘you speak the truth, you die; you don’t speak the truth, you die. I have chosen to speak the truth, dead or alive. Reverend Martin Luther King Jnr. once said, ‘Cowardice asks the question: is it safe? Expediency asks the question: is it politics? Vanity asks the question: is it popular? But Conscience asks the question: is it right?’ And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor political nor popular, but one must take it because it is right.
To my people, I promise you this and this only. I have taken my position; I will not hold back, I will not hold my peace, I will not be shut down, neither will I shut up, not as long as injustice and falsehood continues to reign.
As long as I will live, I will not bow to Baal.

Rwanda closes over 6,000 churches.

Rwanda closes over 6,000 churches in bid for more control over religious communities
Rwandan government closed down over 6,000 churches and about 100 mosques
 Author: Nurudeen Lawal

- The government said the affected churches and mosques are those that fail to comply with building safety standards and other regulations - The government is also proposing a legislation which will require pastors to have a theology degree before starting their own churches so that they teach correct doctrine Rwanda’s government has closed thousands of churches and dozens of mosques as it seeks to assert more control over a vibrant religious community whose sometimes makeshift operations have reportedly threatened the lives of followers.
The Associated Press (AP) reports that President Paul Kagame said he was shocked by the high number of churches in the “small East African country.” “700 churches in Kigali? Are these boreholes (deep wells) that give people water? I don’t think we have as many boreholes. Do we even have as many factories? This has been a mess!,” he said of houses of worship in the nation’s capital in March.
NAIJ.com gathered that Kagame said Rwanda does not need so many houses of worship, claiming that such a high number is only fit for bigger, more developed economies that have the means to sustain them.

The closures are however generating mixed reactions in Rwanda, where human rights groups have long accused Kagame’s government of clamping down on freedom of expression, which the president has denied. Six Pentecostal pastors who protested the church closures were allegedly arrested and accused of “illegal meetings with bad intentions.” Rwanda’s government said churches that are being closed are those that failed to comply with building safety standards. The government said it is taking other steps to oversee the religious community in the largely Christian nation of 12 million people. Alexis Nkurunziza, the president of the private Rwanda Religious Leaders Forum said that there is a new proposed legislation which aims to regulate faith-based organizations separately from civil society organizations. He said suggestions from religious leaders soon will be forwarded to the Rwanda Law Reform Commission for scrutiny and later to parliament. The legislation is reportedly expected to be passed as the ruling party holds a majority of parliamentary seats. The new legislation would require pastors to have a theology degree before they start their own churches so that they teach correct doctrine.

The aim is to reportedly regulate the Pentecostal churches that often spring up under leaders who claim to have received a call to preach. The majority of churches that have been closed are said to be small Pentecostal prayer houses, with some preachers suspected of growing rich off often impoverished followers. The authorities said some churches meet in tents or houses that cannot accommodate crowds and noise pollution from nighttime gatherings is a concern. Anastase Shyaka, the head of the Rwanda Governance Board that regulates faith-based organizations, told the AP: “The prayer houses were found in such poor physical conditions, and we are not targeting any religion. “We are closing prayer houses of all different denominations and asking them to meet existing health and safety standards for their followers.” Local media in the capital have reported that over 6,000 churches have been closed so far across the country, but Shaka said the actual number was still being compiled. Shaka said that Rwanda’s government respects freedom of worship but protecting lives of people comes first, adding that churches which meet the required safety standards will be reopened. One new requirement for churches is the installation of a lightning rod after a lightning strike in March killed 16 worshippers and injured 140 at a Seventh-Day Adventist church in the country’s south. Mosques across Rwanda also have been reportedly affected. The leader of the country’s Muslim community, Mufti Sheikh Salim Hitimana, told AP that about 100 have been closed. “We are now trying to fix what the government told us to do,” he said. Some evangelical leaders said they support Rwanda’s crackdown, saying that protecting the lives of churchgoers is important and having qualified, trained leaders is necessary. “Government efforts to have churches build better structures are welcome to all of us,” said Esron Maniragaba, president of the Evangelical Free Church of Rwanda and a leader with the Evangelical Alliance of Rwanda.

Some Rwandans also backed the government’s action adding that government authorities should supervise churches and take action against exploitative pastors. “Some pastors are motivated by greed and start churches to defraud their followers,” said Charles Murinzi, who attends an Anglican church in the capital.

The Cross Is Able To Deliver Leah Sharibu – VP Osinbajo

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK APR 03, 2018

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has assured Nigerians that Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi schoolgirl allegedly being held by Boko Haram because she refused to renounce Christianity will soon regain her freedom by virtue of her faith in the cross and the death of Jesus Christ.
The Vice President gave the assurance at a concert in commemoration of the Easter celebration in Lagos on Monday,  April 2.
Osinbajo said the cross on which Jesus Christ was nailed was a symbol of victory for those who believe in the Lord Jesus.
He said, “As I understand the Cross, I believe that what happened was so unique. Apart from the death, there was a trial before victory. Christ was accused of many crimes and given a death sentence. What Christ went through was beyond dying. He had already taken the pain that is why we can proudly say that the Cross is an evidence of our own victory.
Leah has stood up to stand by her faith and truth. I am certain on my mind the Cross is able to deliver her. Leah has stood up to stand by her faith and truth. I am certain on my mind the Cross is able to deliver her.
He continued, “I am excited that we Christians are praying for Leah who is still being held captive by insisting she will stand by the Cross of the Lord Jesus Christ. The most exciting thing that a man can have is the knowledge here on earth that we are Victor and in Heaven, we will be counted among those that will reign with Christ in Heaven. There is nothing better than that. It is a win-win situation.
Sharibu was among the 110 students abducted from Government Girls’ Science and Technical College in Dapchi area of Yobe state on February 19.
But while the other girls have been released, the insurgents are said to be holding on to her because she has refused to embrace Islam.

Governor Fayose said this while reacting to claim by President Muhammadu Buhari earlier in the day in Benue. The governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, on Monday wondered if President Muhammadu Buhari is aware of aware of things happening around him and indeed, across the country. Governor Fayose said this while reacting to claim by President Muhammadu Buhari earlier in the day in Benue. The President had said at a stakeholder meeting in Markurdi, that he was not aware that Mr. Idris Ibrahim, the Inspector General of Police, never obeyed his instruction to immediately move to Benue shortly after over 70 persons were massacred in some communities in the state by suspected herdsmen. Fayose and Buhari Vanguard Reacting to the President’s confession, Fayose in a tweet on Monday said: “What manner of a President will give order to the IGP on January 9, only to be telling Nigerians on March 12 (2 months after) that he never knew that the IGP disobeyed his order? Does this President really know anything about happenings around him, not to talk about Nigeria? “I am not even sure that President Buhari is aware of anything about the abducted 110 Dapchi school girls. We are in serious problem in Nigeria.”

Herbal cures for uterine fibroids

Turmeric
It has become so common. Many young women are now complaining of uterine fibroids. Alternative names are uterine leiomyoma, fibromyoma, myoma, or fibroids.
Recent studies have shown that uterine fibroids are the most common non-malignant growths in women of childbearing age. Common symptoms may include heavy or painful periods; prolonged menstrual periods; bleeding between periods; pelvic pain or low back pain; ’fullness’ in the lower abdomen, with or without urinary or rectal symptoms due to compression; and reproductive problems, such as infertility, multiple miscarriages, or early onset of labour during pregnancy.

Many women with uterine fibroids do not have any symptoms.
The significant symptoms and progressive nature of the disease frequently require hysterectomy (removal of the womb), which is associated with surgical morbidity and precludes the opportunity for future childbirth. It has also been reported that the fibroids grew back after surgical evacuation. But recent studies have validated more herbal remedies to provide permanent solution to the menace without adverse side effects.
Turmeric
Turmeric is a spice that comes from the root of Curcuma longa, a member of the ginger family, Zingaberaceae. It contains the active ingredient curcumin. Curcumin is a bright yellow chemical produced by some plants. It is the principal curcuminoid of turmeric. (It is sold as an herbal supplement, cosmetics ingredient, food flavouring, and food colouring.
In Nigeria, it is called atale pupa in Yoruba; gangamau in Hausa; nwandumo in Ebonyi; ohu boboch in Enugu (Nkanu East); gigir in Tiv; magina in Kaduna; turi in Niger State; onjonigho in Cross River (Meo tribe).
Thai researchers have successfully decreased the size of uterine fibroids after six months of daily oral administration of turmeric.
The study titled Curcumin in Reduction Size of Myoma Uteri was published in Thai Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
The researchers at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Bhumibol Adulyadeji Hospital, Directorate of Medical Services, Royal Thai Air Force, Bangkok, Thailand, determined effects of curcumin in decreasing size of leiomyoma (uterine fibroid) and to determine adverse effects of curcumin.
The study was a prospective on conducted in reproductive women with leiomyoma in Bhumibol Adulyadeji Hospital. 35 women with 81 leiomyoma lumps were recruited to participate by convenience sampling.
Ultrasound measurement of size of leiomyoma was done before treatment with curcumin was started. Main outcomes measure was size of leiomyoma. Size of leiomyoma was compared between before and after taking curcumin for six months.
The results showed the mean diameter of leiomyoma were statistically different at before and after three and six month’s curcumin intake. And both mean volume of leiomyoma was statistically different at before and after three and six month’s curcumin intake. Adverse effect of curcumin was not found.
Also, Egyptian researchers have successfully used turmeric, in clinical studies, to decrease the volume of uterine fibroids in women.
The study published in Journal of American Science is titled “Curcumin a New Modality for Treatment of Uterine Myoma.”
The researchers from Heliopolis Research Center, Cairo and Department of obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University Cairo Egypt noted: “Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, is known for its antitumor, anticancer, strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, antiangiogenic, proapoptotic, antiamyloid, antiarthritic, potent inhibitors of cytochrome p450, reduced cholesterol level. Uterine fibroid are the most common pelvic tumours and occur in 20 to 25 per cent of premenopausal women.“Current pharmacological therapies include gonadotropin releasing hormone GnRH agonists/antagonists, oral contraceptive, progestin selective modulator of progesterone receptor (Aspprisnil) and mifepristone.
“The aim of this work is to use for the first time in the literature curcumin for treatment of uterine myoma. A total of 50 women had uterine myoma were enrolled in the study, the inclusion criteria were age between 20-35 years mean age 32±3.25, no more than (3) intramural myomas the main diameter at 3 D transvaginal ultrasound >5mm.
“Curcumin is used in the tablet form each tablet 450 mg one tablet after meal three times daily for 12 weeks, assessment of uterine bleeding by using daily bleeding diapers and haemoglobin (Hb)/main constituent of the red blood cell concentration, uterine dimensions and myoma dimensions are measured by 3D ultrasound.”
Haemoglobin is the main component of red blood cells and serves as the transporter for oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood.
The results of the study found statistically significant decrease in the uterine volume and myoma volume (cm3), “again we find statistically significant increases in Hb percentage after treatment the bleeding stop completely in
88 per cent after two weeks treatment and after four weeks in 12 per cent of the cases.”
The researchers concluded: “Curcumin is a new drug with multiple pharmacological actions, no reported side effects of significances for treatment of myoma.”
Also, another study published in Gynecological Endocrinology showed curcumin suppressing fibroid cell replication by interacting with Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor-Gamma (PPARg). PPARg is a cell receptor that plays a role in controlling the cell cycle and cell division. It also has been found to suppress inflammation.
In order for PPARg to be active, it needs to bind to other molecules. Once this happens, it can then influence cell behaviour. In laboratory trials, the authors of the study found curcumin activated PPARg by binding to it. Doing so inhibited replication and growth of uterine fibroid cells. Curcumin and PPARg interaction also induced apoptosis, or programmed cell death, of fibroid cells.
Lime concoction
A study on herbal preparations for uterine fibroids published in Journal of Medicinal Plants Studies recommended: “…Grind Secamone afzelii leaves inside a bottle of Citrus aurantifolia (lime) fruit juice. Add a cowrie with no hole and little potash. Soak it for one day. Take two spoons once a week to treat fibroid.
